The aim of this methods course is to introduce the concepts and methods of visual data mining and to experience them live on your own data.

This course is aimed at project managers and qualified specialists in service or industrial companies who want to understand and evaluate their data using visual data mining.

Course content:
For effective data mining, the art and science of learning from data, it is important to involve people directly. The basic idea of visual data mining is the appropriate presentation of data in intuitive graphics that allow you to gain an insight into the structure of the data, draw conclusions from the data and interact directly with the data. Visual data mining methods can be used to identify unexpected patterns, structures, models or trends in data. This visual data exploration can therefore be seen as a process for generating “hypotheses” - in other words, as a data mining process.
This course provides an overview of visual data mining, visual perceptions and illusions as well as the various methods used: from classical, statistical graphics to computer-based and interactive visualization techniques.
At the same time, participants are given the opportunity to apply the methods presented in practice to sample data and, for at least half a day, to their own data. The participants thus put the knowledge they have acquired into practice with modern software using concrete examples.
We offer this course in cooperation with our partner Statoo Consulting. The trainer is Dr. Diego Kuonen, PhD in statistics, CStat PStat CSci, founder and CEO of Statoo Consulting, and President of the Swiss Statistical Society.
Each participant receives a version of the printed course materials in English for personal use. On request, an evaluation license for Statistica Data Miner will be made available free of charge for 30 days so that participants can apply what they have learned in their own company.
Prerequisites:
Knowledge of the Statistica software is advantageous, but not necessary.
Implementation:
All participants will receive the Statistica Data Miner evaluation license for installation on a laptop with sufficient advance notice.
Location
- Online: These training sessions offer maximum flexibility without the need to travel. All participants work on their own PCs. We recommend using two monitors for this purpose.
